This is actually the world’s largest low cost airline overall, not just in the USA. With its headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Southwest Airlines now operates around 3400 flights daily, since its establishment in 1967.


This is a really common airline to see whilst you’re visiting various travel hubs in the USA. Jetblue operates mainly out of JFK Airport in New York City, and serves the entire country as a result.

Virgin America

Part of the Virgin family, Virgin America aims to make travelling around the states cheaper, so everyone can get from A to B without breaking the bank. Established in 2007, the airline is growing year upon year.

Frontier Airlines

This particular low cost airline has its headquarters in Denver, and covers up to 60 destinations across the country, and also encompassing international destinations which are close to US waters.

Sun Country Airlines

A little less well-known in the mainstream, Sun Country Airlines is headquartered in Minnesota and operates its hub in Saint Paul International Airport. Again, the airline covers the entirety of the USA.

Allegiant Air

With its headquarters in Nevada, Allegiant Air is seriously up and coming and offers very low cost fares to major US cities.

AirTran Airways

Operating around 700 flights on a daily basis, AirTrain Airways has its headquarters in Dallas, Texas, and serves all major airports across the country.

Spirit Airlines

Finally, we have Spirit Airlines. This particular airline is based in Miramar, Florida, and serves all major US cities, as well as the Caribbean, Mexico, and into Latin America too.
